Why Laying on the Ground Is Good before Setting up Camp
Author
Mike has a real passion for cycling, hiking and just generally being outdoors. Being from Warrington, he is only a few hours away from North Wales, The Peak District, Yorkshire and the Lake District. He has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and done a lot of the mountains in the Lake District. His new passion is walking his dog and enjoying a pint at the end.
Sometimes when you are out in the wild or on tough hiking terrains with a heavy backpack, then by the end of the day, you will be tired and want to rest immediately. What if we tell you that dropping your backpack and laying down on the spot will not be a bad thing to do before setting up your camp. In the following sections, we will tell you reasons why you should lie on the camping spot after the tiresome day and then set up your camp.
Taking Rest Helps Recover your Body
The muscles of the body have an endurance limit. After a certain amount of workout, the muscles tend to break down and need time to recover. Once you have completed day-long hiking, the muscles of your body will start demanding rest. Even then, if you do not take rest to recover from exhaustion caused by the trip and continue setting up your camp then the muscles will breakdown further due to the lack of rest. If this happens, you might not feel like getting up next morning due to the excessive fatigue. The ideal way to rest your body and check the ideal spot for camp is to take a drink to replenish the lost water in your body and then lie down on your chosen spot. You can also do some stretching before lying down to relieve your muscles from the accumulated stress. Keep your legs elevated by resting them on a rock or your backpack as it will help drain the excessive lactic acid developed in the feet and improve blood circulation throughout the body.
Lying Down Helps Find the Perfect Place
It happens with most of the hikers who pitch their tent in a hurry that once they lie down in their tent, they end up feeling uncomfortable. Now, once you are in the tent and it’s dark out there, you won't have time to find another comfortable spot for pitching your tent. The result will be that you will have to spend the entire night in discomfort, which might lead to sleep deprivation the next day. Laying down before pitching your tent will give a feel of how the ground feels like, and whether the area is comfortable enough for you to sleep. If it is so, then you can pitch your tent in the same area without any worries about comfortable sleep.
It Will Help You Reconnect with Mother Nature
The wilderness and tough mountainous terrains are no help for a human meandering through them. Once you are out, you will face the sun, the weather and sudden elevation or depression in the terrain. This will soak the energy out of the body and make you feel tired and won’t let you enjoy the whole experience. The idea of going out is to enjoy, to forget everything else, and to feel the beauty of the surrounding around you. This is the reason why you decided to go out in the first place, didn’t you? Getting reconnected with nature along with relaxing your muscles will refresh your mind to start the next morning with new energy.
This was the list about why we recommend you to rest after the trek before pitching your tent. If you have any of your particular reasons on why we should rest before setting up the camp, then do share it with us.
