It looks like we have some warmer weather on the way this weekend so this could be a great opportunity to get out and do some walking, but will it warm enough to flash a bit of flesh and don the walking shorts for the first time this year? Maybe I should consider a new pair so what features do I need, time to look at the checklist.

After the winter hiatus I might be best to look for something that has a bit of stretch in the waist, but has belt loops too so I can tighten the belt as I get out and about properly again. It is important to consider the overall stretch of the material used in the shorts, many manufacturers now are utilising two-way and four-way stretch fabrics which do supply extra comfort and better freedom of movement. However, if the cut and design of a garment is right for me then shorts with no stretch can be comfortable too.

Ventilation is always going to be important, especially during the summer, so shorts that have mesh lined pockets would be good to have and pockets that have a zip would also be useful to keep important items safe but easy to get at, with one pocket being large enough to accommodate an OS map or guidebook.

As far as fabrics a fast drying synthetic material would be best for me, but cotton is still a good choice but will soak up water and is slower to dry. Durability is always a good factor to consider so double stitching is something I always like.

So time to check out what is available on the website and in the Macclesfield outlet. But if you think I have missed anything why not let me know? Or am I tempting fate and the weather, and should pack the walking trousers as well?
