The fall colours have started to show and the cold weather has taken its turn. I would like to take this opportunity to write about the right outdoor clothes one should be wearing to keep them warm and comfortable during the cold months. While it is evident that it is best to wear layers during the winter months, it is important to know what this layering consists of.
Even during the colder months, you might be able to experience a different range of temperatures during the course of the whole day. If you are hiking, walking, or trekking over a steep area, it is best to keep yourself ready with all types of clothes, necessary to keep you protected.
You can change into something light once the weather changes. It is also necessary to see whether you have overloaded your backpack with just the clothes. While camping or walking, and even hiking, it is best to keep your backpack weight at a minimum for ease of traveling.
There are three layers to keep you warm during the winters while walking or camping:
Outer Layer
The outer layer is waterproof as well as weatherproof. It protects you from the rain and the wind. This waterproof layer can be a decent investment for a longer period of time, as it would last a few years. You can opt for a three-in-one jacket which has a detachable hood and a thin inner lining for a well-designed fit. There are various types of jackets and fleece lined sweatshirts available, which you can easily invest upon. For a fickle British weather, you can also choose to look for jackets with storm flaps over the zip and a hood to keep you warm and fuzzy.
Base Layer
One of the most important things to keep in mind while searching for a good base layer is the breathability factor. The base layer consists of clothes which can wick moisture and regulate the body temperature well. If you go out for daily walks, cycling and hiking, it is best to invest on ‘technical’ T-shirts. These are very useful when it comes to regulating body temperature. You can also have a thermal base layer which provides ample insulation to keep you warm and protected. The thermal base layer is a good investment when it comes to camping.
Mid Layer
The mid layer is composed of a thin fleece lining to wear over your base layer without the requirement of an outer layer. It can be a thin fleece lined top or a T-shirt to keep you warm during the hike. It is easy to keep it inside your bag when it gets warm. If the weather gets too cold, you can always opt for a gilet or a body warmer. You can also opt for a soft-shell jacket.
Do You Want To Keep Warm While Travelling?
There are other small items which you can carry inside your bag while backpacking, hiking, or camping during the cold months. You can invest in high-quality warm socks and gloves. You can also include scarves and neck-warmers for winter walks and hiking.
It is recommended to always invest in good trekking shoes while camping. A waterproof shoe is always a good option to help you walk through muddy tracks. A good pair of shoe or boots would provide traction for grip over high altitudes. Go camping with your friends and keep yourself warm and protected during the chilly winters.
