The idea of camping with babies is overwhelming and at the same time fun. You might need a bit of pre-planning, and everything can be managed. The biggest concern on the this kind of camping would be the baby’s sleep. The baby’s sleep is affected by many reasons such as teething, or their frequent cold and coughs. Hence, you need to be little careful when you are camping with the baby.
Here are some tips for you to ensure your baby’s comfort sleep
Tips to go Camping with a Baby:
- Tent Size: You should choose a tent that is appropriate according to the comfort of the baby. If you have a toddler, then you must look for a tent that is spacious. The tent should have enough space for the child to play. The child should also get proper space to rest and sleep.
- Follow the Same Routine: Don’t change the routine that you follow at home. The baby is used to it and they should not feel that they are in a different surrounding. Wash their face, bathe them, read a book, breastfeed them, put them to sleep. Continue your routine during camping too.
- Comfort: The baby should get maximum comfort and there should not be any compromise on that. Bring along your baby’s sleeping bed, cot, or crib to ensure that the baby feels at home. It is difficult for the babies to adjust in changed sleeping arrangements. Also, don’t forget to bring your baby’s favourite toy or soother.
- Layers and Sleeping Bag: Keeping the baby warm is important, especially if you are camping in cold weather. Bring appropriate winter clothes for the baby. An extra layer of clothing keeps the baby warm at night. The inner layer should be made of breathable fabric. A fleece bunting suit is a good option for this. Gloves or wool toque is also helpful on keeping the baby warm.
- Camp Close to Your Home: You need to choose a place that is close to your home. If you are camping with your baby for the first time, then you must keep it short and brief. Once you have taken your baby out, you can go for longer trips. Older babies seem to have difficulty adjusting in the new environment.
- Keep Baby Close: There might be a chance that the baby is cold in the night. So, it’s better to keep the baby close to you, especially when you have an infant. Your body warmth will keep the baby warm too. It is also convenient if you are breastfeeding the baby.
- Essential Baby Items: Keep a stock of all the essential baby items with you such as diapers, soap, baby wash, feeding bottle, baby milk and food, etc. with you. You cannot hope to find these items while you are camping away from home.
Last but not the least, you must go to bed while your baby goes to sleep. Babies of different age have different sleep pattern. Hence, you can get your sleep while your baby is sleeping. You cannot stay up waiting for your kid to wake up as this is also not fixed.
