The perks of bringing your smartphone when you go camping!
For many of us, camping is a chance to unplug from our busy lives which are often dominated by technology. There are benefits however to bringing your smartphone with you!
When you’re camping, you will plan many activities based on the weather forecast. If you’re camping for multiple days and you haven’t checked the forecast since before you left, there’s a good chance that it might have changed by then. This will leave you unprepared. Get live updates on your smartphone to give yourself the best idea of what to expect. If you’re anticipating any rain at all before you leave, make sure to get a case for your phone to protect it from the rain (and in case you drop it)!
One of the problems with bringing your smartphone outdoors for a sustained period of time is of course, battery life. Try to use it as little as possible and do all of the usual things to try and preserve as much battery as possible: turn your brightness down, disconnect from Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and close any apps as soon as you finish using them. Purchasing a portable battery will allow you to fully charge your phone whilst you’re out and about – sometimes multiple times, depending on the charger.
We all love to take photographs of the stunning views and surroundings that nature provides us with, and unless you want to add the extra weight of a camera to your pack – your smartphone is a great option. They all have cameras which are constantly improving in terms of quality and resolution, so while they may not be quite as good as a dedicated camera, it’s a more than an able substitute.
If you’re camping or hiking at a new location, it could always prove to be beneficial to have your smartphone with you as it gives you the option to use apps such as Google Maps if you ever find yourself in unfamiliar territory. Make sure to always bring a map with you regardless, because you may not have consistent signal!
Many people use camping as an escape, a chance to enjoy the relaxing peace and quiet that it can bring. But for those who don’t want to be separated from their music, a smartphone is one of the easiest and most accessible pieces of technology for you to listen to music on. Make sure to use headphones when you’re listening to music if you’re near any other campers that may be trying to enjoy the tranquillity that the outdoors can provide.
As well as listening to music, your smartphone provides you with the ability to do many other things to keep you entertained. Whether you have an iPhone, Android or Windows phone, there are no shortage of games, books and movies available. The main downfall of these is that they consume a lot of battery life which you may not be able to spare. Don’t forget the reason that you’re camping for though!
