This secluded village has barely around 86 people, which explains the silence it is surrounded by. The village is located in the Western part of Rhodope. The nearest airport to this village is in Plovdiv, only 50 km from the location. The capital Sofia is the best way through which you can go to this village. You can rent a cab in the city from where it will take around 3 hours. You can enjoy a smooth ride through the mountainous roads.
What to do in Borovo?
Most of the places in this village are for Orthodox Christians. Surrounded by the Holy Cross forest, Borovo speaks of many legends. This is why there are so many tourists who come to this village to seek God and to pray.
Monasteries and temples are majorly sighted in this area. A chapel sits at the top of the village which is within walking distance from Borovo. The chapel is beautifully maintained and comes with an exquisite view of the entire village from the top. The sheer beauty that nature holds can truly be represented by the spectacular wilderness that this chapel has to offer. Another chapel that you can see on your way back to the village is the 'Saint Sunday'. Providing similar tranquillity, it is a significant spot to visit.
Located at the top of Borovo lies a monastery called the "Saint Spas" which you can reach as you follow a trail named 'the Path of the Light'. This 15-minute walk on the asphalt road can be moderately difficult for tourists to complete. Plus, it reveals some of the steepest inclines, although these do come with majestic views. Follow the yellow markings and you will reach the 'St. Konstantin and Helena's chapel. The most well-known spot in this area, however, is a region they call the 'Stapalata' which means 'the Steps'. Two meadows separate to create a spot that hosts the rarest species of vegetation, along with peculiarly scented flowers and unusual rock formations, showing how vivid nature's creations can be.
