When you are living in the UK, the weather is unpredictable and you do not know when the weather is going to change next. It is important to layer when you are wearing versatile clothes underneath. But it gets hard to make a choice for the ones you are going to carry with you while you are on the trip. A mid-layered fleece helps. This is one item in your clothing collection which can be worn during any time of the year. It is advisable to invest in a mid-layer fleece jacket which is light and breathable.
Perfect for wear with outer and inner layer, it is easy to pack and comfortable to wear. However, there are a lot of aspects to look at while tackling the weight of mid-layer fleece. Here are a couple of things to look at while investing in a mid-layered fleece:
Layer it up
Oftentimes we layer ourselves so that we can open it conveniently whenever it is required. It also means that you can remove them and wear them easily whenever it gets a bit chilly. Thankfully fleece is lightweight and can be easily packed along with other things which you might carry for a long haul. You can easily hike up a hill in your base layer and put it on whenever you reach the top.
What is fleece?
Fleece is not a natural fibre. It is a man-made material which is designed for your comfort and warmth. It also helps with moisture-wicking. These days, fleece fabric is made of recycled plastic. It is very popular because it is lightweight in nature and also affordable. There are natural materials such as wool, which can provide you with the required warmth but are expensive. There are various repair schemes and recycled materials put to good use. It brings us to a sustainable clothing field which is helpful for repurposing.
Types of fleece
There are three different types of fleece materials. They are:
Mid weight fleece
Mid weight fleece are thicker than lightweight fleeces and good for layering purposes. It is advisable to invest in a mid-weight fleece jacket or a sweatshirt if it is breathable and provides ample opportunity for flexible wear. It can make for a perfect apparel for outdoor hiking, especially when the weather is chilly. These are also a good option to go for when you are backpacking as you get a middle ground to choosing lightweight and breathable apparel for camping and hiking both.
They are perfect for the windy days and when the weather gets cold or a sudden downpour in the hills.
Heavy weight fleece
Anything above 300gsm, these materials are heavy and bulky. They are good for the days when you are backpacking outdoors. Heavy weight fleece materials are also cosy and provide ample warmth and insulation, which is perfect for the chilly weather.
Unless you are in the arctic, these heavy weight fleece material jacket or sweater provide you enough warmth to sweat it off. You can take them off when you hike and are getting warmer than usual.
Lightweight fleece
Any fleece fabric which is up to 200gsm comes under a lightweight fleece material. These are perfect for a low insulation wear, while you are hiking during the summers. These kind of jackets or sweatshirts are great while hiking, climbing, biking and for other outdoor activities.
They are breathable and flexible in nature and perfect for layering. You can add another layer if you are cold or the weather is chilly than usual. You can wear one over your tee or a base layer and keep the body heat intact.
Own them all
It is a smart option to invest in one of the above mentioned types of fleece fabric. If you are travelling in and around the UK, you would know that the weather is unpredictable. Therefore, you would need to shift between mid-weight, light weight, and heavy weight fleece material apparels to avoid catching a cold or fever. These jackets or sweaters are versatile in nature and can keep you warm and breathable during any time of the year.
