I am so excited to share my recent discovery of the Berwickshire Coastal Path with all of you! This hidden gem is a scenic walking route that follows the coastline of Berwickshire, Scotland. The path starts in the town of Eyemouth and winds its way north for a distance of 55 miles (89 km) before ending at the Scottish border town of Cockburnspath.
Along the way, walkers will enjoy stunning views of the North Sea and the chance to spot wildlife such as seals, dolphins, and whales. The Berwickshire Coastal Path is suitable for walkers of all fitness levels, as there are plenty of places to stop and rest along the way.
Many people choose to complete the walk in stages over a period of several days or weeks. If you're planning on tackling the Berwickshire Coastal Path, then read on. I'll be sharing all of my tips and tricks for getting the most out of your visit to this beautiful area.
When you begin your journey, the path can be quite challenging in places and may not suit small children or those with mobility issues. Make sure to pack plenty of food and water, as there are few opportunities to purchase supplies along the way. And finally, please be respectful of the environment and do not damage any plants or wildlife.
Now that you know what to expect, let's start the journey. The first section of the trail takes you from Cockburnspath to St. Abbs Head. This section is around 10 miles long and will take you approximately 4 hours to complete at a leisurely pace.
As you walk, you'll be treated to stunning views of St. Abbs Head, a rocky headland that's home to an abundance of seabirds. You may even spot some puffins! Once you reach St Abbs village, make sure to stop for a break and explore the picturesque harbour.
From St Abbs Head, the trail continues north along the coast towards Eyemouth. This section is around 9 miles long and will take you approximately 3-4 hours to complete. Keep your eyes peeled for seals sunning themselves on the rocks as you make your way toward one of Scotland's most popular surfing beaches.
The final section of the trail takes you from Eyemouth to Berwick-upon-Tweed. This section is around 36 miles long and will take you approximately 14 hours to complete. Along the way, you'll have stunning views of both England and Scotland, as well as opportunities to spot dolphins playing in the waves.
Once you reach Berwick-upon-Tweed, you've completed one of Scotland's most scenic coastal walks. I hope you enjoy your time on the Berwickshire Coastal Path and that this guide helps you make the most of your experience.
If you're driving, then there is plenty of parking available in both Eyemouth and Berwick-upon-Tweed. Just be sure to leave your car in a designated parking space, as there are hefty fines for those who park illegally.
Whether you're an experienced hiker or a first-time walker looking for an easy introduction to long-distance trails, the Berwickshire Coastal Path is perfect for you. With its breath-taking scenery and abundant wildlife, this 55-mile stretch of coastline has a lot to offer. So why wait any longer? Pack your bags and head north!
