He has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and done a lot of the mountains in the Lake District. His new passion is walking his dog and enjoying a pint at the end.
Trail running is becoming an increasingly popular sports activity in Britain. This activity combines running and hiking (where there is steep ascent). Here, I will tell you about 4 key essentials of trail running if you want to run, say 35 miles a day. If you take care of these 4 important elements, your trail run will be smooth and your body will feel rejuvenated the next day for the next running session. So let's find out about these important elements of trail running.
Keep Your Energy Supplies Going
This is the first element of trail running. Always keep the energy supply in your body at an optimum level. Always try to have enough supply of foods as your body loses a lot of energy while running and if you don’t have enough food to fill in for that energy deficit then it will have an adverse effect on your body. If you’re starting a little late on your trail then you might have an advantage of finding cafes open to get yourself a fulfilling breakfast. Always keep candies or chocolates with you so that you can have some much-needed energy if you happen to be on a road without food or cafes nearby. If your body has enough energy, you will be able to complete your run in time and have enough time to relax your body and enjoy your success.
Manage your muscles
Running is an activity that puts too much stress on the muscles of your body. If you are not taking care of the major muscle groups of your body that are involved in running then you might end up in excruciating pain that will hamper your run and you probably won’t be able to achieve your targets for the day. The solutions for this is doing proper stretches before and after your run so that your muscles are relaxed. If you are able to save some time during the run then try getting some professional massage on the way. Muscle management is an important element of your body as it will keep your muscles in good shape to keep running on your trail.
Keep Yourself Hydrated
Keeping your body hydrated is perhaps the most important element of any running activity. You can lose a high amount of water and keeping your body hydrated will keep your mind and body rejuvenated. A well-hydrated body can recover easily after the run and your body won’t feel the soreness and tight muscles the next day.
Sleep Your Way to Recovery
As mentioned before, your body feels a lot of stress throughout the day when you are on your trail run and thus need a healthy and deep sleep for recovering. The muscles need to be relaxed and so is the mind, and so, a sleep of at least 8 hours is required for revitalizing your mind and body.
So, now we know for managing a good day of trail running and pushing for more than 30 miles, you will need to keep all these 4 essentials in place. Plan your trip in such a way that you can always manage to have enough food, water and sleep on your way. Also, you will need to keep your muscles relaxed and keep your daily targets in sync with what your muscles can endure on a daily basis. Don’t try to push your body to the limit. The idea is to enjoy your run and don’t get all worked up for achieving your target.
So go out and enjoy your trail run in Britain!!
