A New Year has begun and now’s the time to check out the great trekking gear bargains we have on the website, and what better reason to update your walking equipment then to help to pursue your New Year Resolution, and one of the leading outdoor magazines has come up with something to aim for, to complete 1,000 miles this year.

Sounds like a challenge that is beyond you, Lets have a look at how it can be accomplished:

1. Walk at Lunchtime, walk to or from walk. We are all aware of health guidelines which say we should be undertaking a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate exercise five times a week in order to prevent heart problems and the onset of diabetes amongst other diseases. A stroll outside is always a welcome break from sitting at your desk and you will cover a couple of miles in 30 minutes, so this adds up to 10 miles a week.

2. Walking Festivals. Take the opportunity to see a different part of the country with a long weekend away and take in one of the numerous walking festivals that take place all over the country all year round, and you will easily clock up40 miles to your total over four days.

3. Weekend walking. Just a long afternoon can see you adding another eight miles to your total by finding local walks within a close distance of where you live, wherever you are in the UK. And here’s an interesting note, it has been found that if you are walking into a headwind then your calorie usage goes up by about twenty percent and walking through mud adds 10 more.

4. Charity Walk. Why not raise some money for your favourite cause and clock up some miles at the same time. On average a couple of charity walks will add another twenty-six miles to your total.

5. Walk the Trail. The biggie, take your holiday and plan one big walk on many of the long distance walks around this great country, whether you go for something like the South Downs, or walk the Coast to Coast, over  the time of your holiday you could add nearly 200 miles to your annual target.

If you hit all of these then you will actually reach a total in excess of 1,100 miles. So you even have a bit of leeway to work with, so check out the latest bargains on the website for the best trekking gear at the best prices and put your best foot forward towards that total.
