Walk Via Crib Goch

A beautiful mountain ridge to walk along the highest mountain in Wales, Crib Goch is a well-known and popular tourist attraction. There are various ways to reach the place but for me, I have a fear of heights and go on for walks only if the weather if favourable. A classic route, this place has a particular temperature and the day we went out for the walk, the temperature was a bit high. So my friends and I returned from the summit of Snowdonia and dipped in the tarn.

Classic Horseshoe Walking Route

This route is best travelled in an anti-clockwise direction via the Crib Goch and then the Garnedd Ugain. After one of the hottest July days, the prospect of a swim in Glaslyn Tarn at the foot of Snowdon was more appealing than tackling the peak in Y Lliwedd.

Before reaching the A4086 road, there is a car park at Pen-Y-Pass which usually stays full during the morning. It might be due to its popularity. We continued down the A4086 road to Llanberis to the Pen-Y-Pass car park and lay near the bus stand where we parked. You can easily take the bus to Pen-Y-Pass.

As we neared the Crib Goch the path started to get a little steeper and we could see the Mountain View from above. The summit could be seen easily while the clouds started to appear from above. This is where we met the Pyg Track and we met up with a group which was going towards the same destination. The views are quite breathtaking from above.

The parts where you have to climb are pretty steep and you could be exposed to sheer drops all around. But it felt quite safe to be honest, even if there was the wind blowing that day.

The Top

Once we reached the top, the view was breathtaking. We enjoyed the exhilarating climb after we started looking at the clouds form above the mountain top. The Sharp Edge in Lake District was similar to the one we climbed that day. The picturesque mountain is safer to climb even if you have gear along with you. You can take your time to get along with the mountain ridges and their steepness and then you are ready to get going at a faster pace.

Coming Down from the Pinnacle

It was quite easy to come down with the misty view and we started to wonder if we would be able to see the summit. After we reached the area of the Llanberis, we could see the lake of Llyn Peris and got a great view of the Crib Goch and the ridge we just walked. Looking from this angle, the mountain would look a little steeper, but the experience is very gentle.

While coming back, we met many groups of people who were starting their trek. If you feel like someone is in need of medical attention, you can call for the mountain rescue helicopter which responds in time when you call for someone.

I hope you get a good idea of what to expect while walking Mount Snowdon via the Crib Goch. Although it was dry and windy when we went, it would be easier during drier conditions for everyone. If you are planning to make the trip with friends and family, make sure to go prepared with everything you need, including good shoes and a backpack full of essentials.
