It's again that time of the year when we have to pack our bags with our loved ones and family to get a break from our everyday lives. Hiking is something that not only allows us to get away from the monotonous schedule but also to get closer to nature. A nice day out with family doesn't have to be expensive or difficult. Hiking can also be fun, insightful and give you the chance to spend some precious time together and create special memories.
From exploring the rivers and the coast to discovering animals, and from woodland misadventures to natural discoveries, we have plenty of hikes to choose from. Here are some of the most family-friendly hikes in the United Kingdom that highlight varied landscapes and offer a different hiking trail from kids to parents.
The New Forest, England
If you want some scenic walks and want to spend some nice hours in the enclosed woods, then The New forest is a perfect location for you. It has so many trails & hikes to explore but you simply start from 3 mile Denny wood. The place is filled with Britain’s most adored animals such as deer, snakes, wild ponies and many rare woodland birds. In autumn, there's an opportunity to listen to herds of red and fallow stags as they start their yearly rut. If you want a great seaside view then you can take Lymington to Beaulieu 9.7mile route. If it's a beautiful sunny day or a less beautiful situation, nothing can beat the joy and tranquilly this trail provides.
Peak District, England
It is a simple and fun circular 5-mile route that has a spectacular view near the Wye River. This place is visited by people around the world because it has plenty of space to explore. The place is full of alluring lakes, rolling hills, gorges and wild moorlands. But remember, there are no peaks! It is a perfect place to visit with your family on the weekend since it lies in the middle of the U.K. In this varied environment, there are several marked walkways to be found, from fun riverside to harder wild hill climbs.
With the exquisite woodlands & River Derwent, you can simply start your hike from Padley Gorge Walk. But if you are looking something more challenging and adventures, then start with Chrome Hill route that follows the Dragon's Back range and also has many short climbs. Exciting, huh?
The Old Man Coniston, The Lake District
This is one of my favourite walks because it's full of beautiful scenery that will leave you amazed. To reach the top of Coniston, there are different routes, but I would prefer you to start at Coniston Village. Before pulling into an old tin mine, the route starts by rambling along a canal. You then climb up to the spectacular Low Water Lake. It's just 7.7 miles and it's going to take 3 to 4 hours or so. You can return via the Goat Water Path, which has some spectacular landscapes.
Cairngorms National Park, Scotland
If you want to experience the natural beauty without any challenging mountain routes, then you must go for Cairngorms National Park. It has four of the five highest summits in the UK and is almost the double size of the Lake District. You make this place more fun, it has many ski centers and Balmoral Castle which has a Queen’s private residence. A perfect tourist destination!
To enjoy a pleasing view of waterfall & giant pine forest, you can start walking from Fall of Brurar. But if you want a great photo hike, Loch's walk around Loch Morlich will take you between beaches and Queen's Forest covered with snow peaks.
West Highland Way, Scottish Highlands
It is the most popular hike and walking train in the U.K. because of its gorgeous beauty. It starts from Milngavie and finishes all the way in Fort William. The entire route is 96 miles long and takes you to the largest loch and the largest moor in the country. It will just take you 4 to 10 days to complete this hike. This is an ideal choice for you if you want to experience Scottish mountain landscapes and are searching for a simple multiple-day trek.
In Conclusion
You will enjoy the stunning view and have a fun weekend on these hikes with your closed ones. It will help you develop wonderful memories for life and push you to revisit these places. What are you waiting for? Go now!
