Early Morning Working Out and Its Benefits
The Wee Hours
It’s the middle of the week and we are already cramped up with our work.
Today I woke up with a jolt when I accidentally hit the alarm clock with my hand and water spilled all over my side table. I rubbed my eyes and quickly saw the time. It was 5: 00 AM in the morning. Chaos had already started and I had to run through my clothes in the dark not to wake Simon up.
I quickly packed my bags and got ready in less than fifteen minutes to walk straight to the Financial District to teach a BODYPUMP class at the Bay Club.
While walking steadily, I thought to myself how easily I am able to wake up in the early morning and my work gets easier when I wake up on time.
I admit that I am a morning person and it gets easier for me than Simon who is not one. It gets difficult for people who are not into the habit of waking up early to ease up to a lot of activities in the morning. While I was based out of Orlando, I used to wake up at around 5: 15 and get ready to walk till the gym down my building to teach a BODYPUMP class.
These days my schedule is dictated by the classes that I teach which are at around 5: 00 PM, 6:00 AM, 10: 00 AM and around noon. It gets hectic as I have very few breaks in-between all the classes. I made the change to early workouts after because my job required that I worked till late.
Now, I have to wake up early for a single early morning class. Here is how I do it:
- Plan what you are going to wear beforehand
It is important to know what you are going to wear the next day so that you can pack it beforehand. It will save you a lot of time right after you wake up and you can prepare to get ready instantly. The night before is the best time to pack your essentials including a pair of gym shoes.
- Plan what you are going to eat
Make your early morning shakes and a normal breakfast. It is always better to keep it ready. A morning protein such as the yogurt keeps you fresh and gets you ready for the day. It is okay to not eat anything before you workout. However, there are a lot of times where it is important for people to eat something before they start working out.
- Set your work outfit after you are done with your workout
Keep your essentials post workout in a different bag where you can easily change and go to work. If you are planning on working out during the evenings, you can easily carry the gym back in your car or with you and change easily before the workout.
- Keep everything set inside the gym bag
Your gym bag requires everything to be kept safe inside such as headphones, keys, charger for your iPod, towel, wallet, etc.
Is it better to work out during the evening or the morning?
It is up to you how you manoeuvre your time and your will to wake up every day. Although working out both during the evenings and mornings can be fruitful, it is important to stay consistent with it. You can always try and wake up early in the morning for your workouts and see whether it suits you or not. Although I would suggest that you prepare beforehand for the morning workouts.
