You might not necessarily have the perfect weather forecast whilst planning a camping trip. After summer is gone and Autumn is near with red and dry leaves falling, a rainy-day scenario should not come in the way of your fun time. This will only need some planning; a little preparation and you are all set to beat the wet weather for a perfect outdoor adventure.
Pack Smartly for The Camp
You must be prepared with every tool and accessory while you plan for any camping trip. Anything from hardware tools to the essential commodities should be packed. Don’t forget to include a variety of tarps, rope, duct tape, bungee cords, and rubbish bags. All these things are useful in beating the wet weather.
Choose the Right Location
Head for a place on higher ground with little elevation. Once you are in a flood zone and you know that the sky is about to fall, a little elevation will surely help. Even, better is a place away from a river or pond facing the morning sun as waking up all socked in water is not a very happy feeling. Avoid setting up your camp under a tree as there are chances it might fall during continuous rain. Also, even if the rain has stopped, the water will keep on dripping from the branches and the leaves. So, better to avoid it.
The Tent is Your Home
The tent is the place where you will be spending a good lot of time. Hence, you need to give a thought about it. Place a tarp over the tent to prevent the water from coming in and protect your camping place too. Better if placed at an angle as it will help the water to drain out. You can also cover the tent ground with a tarp with each end tucked in perfectly to prevent the water from coming in. A synthetic waterproof sleeping bag is perfect to get some well earned sleep.
Proper Lighting
The sun sets early during the rainy season and even in the days, it is a little dark with low sunlight. Bring with you some mason jars or candles for proper lighting. Even, a string of LED lights operating on battery can be used for creating some light around you. Keep a stock of batteries handy with you. If you like, you can attach reflectors to the tress to save yourself from getting lost in the dark.
Clothing and Other Accessories
While everything is wet around you, you need to layer smartly. Soaking your clothes or socks is not a great thing as it can lead to infections and make you sick as well. Choose warm clothes topped with a waterproof jacket or coat. Waterproof shoes are also essential to keep you moving even in wet areas. Even, to prevent them from getting spoiled, it is important that you keep them in a waterproof bag. Packing an extra pair of clothing and gear is useful too.
As there is no survival without food, it becomes essential that you carry snacks and eatables with you. You can carry a stove for cooking and for warmth in the tent. Pack the ingredients in waterproof packets. Small plastic bags are not only useful for food, but also for sealing important documents, cash, etc.
