British Heatwave and More
I have been pretty much occupied since my last blog came out. One of the things that kept me busy was a short camping trip for the Wild Night Out. However, seeing the temperatures this week, the idea of going outdoors didn’t sound like a great idea.
In this blog, I am going to write about the current heatwave, my newfound love for salad, some book reviews, and lastly, my camping rendezvous in the Wye Valley.
Salad- My New Found Love!
I have added a lot of variations in my salads-from varying the leaves, to putting tomatoes, sweet peppers, beetroots, carrot, cashew nuts, grapes, blueberries, crispy onion, etc. I prefer Ranch or Caesar salads mostly, but this one time I had a salad from Pizza Express that was equally delicious.
The British Heatwave
I think all the Brits reading my blog can agree with the fact the heatwave has been torturous. Daily temperatures reach 28-30° Celsius and winds are negligible, making life a living hell!
A lovely warmth during summers is most welcome, but the kind of heatwave that has been going on lately is highly unwelcome. My house is insulated and great to stay in on most days, but the heatwave has made it unpleasant to stay in as well. The ceiling fan in my bedroom helps but not so much to suffice for the heat.
Thankfully, I went on a camping trip during the weekend to the Wye Valley. My tent was a blessing as it had some ground-level vents that kept things cool at night and gave me a great sleep.
I had some time to read a few books and I would like to share my views on them:
Philip Pullman’s first volume of His Dark Materials trilogy, The Northern Lights has been my first audiobook choice this week. The book is about adventure, willpower, trust, and magic. They show these themes through the protagonist, Lyra, who is a child living at the Jordan College in Oxford. The book kept me engaged throughout and I am already looking forward to reading the second volume.
The Impulsive Explorer. It took me some time to finish this book, but I did it this week. The reason why it took me so long to finish this is that I am not a sit-and-read person. I prefer audiobooks. The book is about Karen and her experiences in the corporate world during the 90s, particularly focusing on a business research trip to the Antarctic. It is an exciting read and a must-read for people looking for some fun stories in the corporate sphere.
Camping in Wye Valley
For the Wild Night Out, I spent my night camping in the Wye Valley. It is an hour away from my place and was just the getaway that I needed! This camping experience gave me time to relax and rejuvenate myself.
