Hiking is something we all do for fun or exercise and is normally accomplished on unpaved paths known as trails. A hike's length and duration can range from a few hours to several days. It is a popular pastime in many areas of the world, where people come together to walk through woods, parks, riverbanks and mountains to reconnect with nature. It is believed that hiking has many social and health significance.

But the question is, when is the best time to go hiking? Winter, summer, spring and autumn are four seasons with their own beauty and uniqueness. But most people prefer spring or autumn, as they are milder and provide better conditions for hiking. All that counts for a hiker is the long days that occur weeks before the equinox rolls around in the spring.

Year Distribution for Hikers

Some people claim that because of the low visibility and of course the cold weather, winter season is an off-season for hiking. By December 21st, however, the days are getting longer and we get more sunlight. Then in February, which is the time before spring begins, we have 10 hours of sunlight that means we can reach our goals and enjoy our hiking more easily. In summers, again after June 21, the days start getting shorter.

There are only two dry and wet seasons in certain parts of the world, while there are six seasons on the other end, including pre-winter and monsoon. The calendar was divided by the Celts into six parts. This distribution is done as per their convenience and needs.

Time to Change

Whoever wanted to divide the calendar the old fashioned way did not think about how much land could be covered between sunrise and sunset or which time of the year is perfect for the photography. It is high time to reform this traditional calendar and establish one where the seasons are controlled by sunlight.

For hikers, February 4 should be declared as the beginning of the season where you can start planning your fun and exciting journey. Then consider May 5 as The Shining's first day that means that the days are longer and you can easily and comfortably walk and cover great distances. Then consider August 7 as The Dimming's start, that'll act as a reminder to go hiking every weekend. Finally, you can schedule a moonlit hike from November 7 and it will be the beginning of the Darkening.

Conclusion

It's very evident that there's no best season to start your hike. Every season has its own beauty and elegance and it depends entirely on you, in which season you want to go out into the mountains. As per the conventional calendar, you can plan your hike because every season has its own charisma. But the new calendar will help you enjoy the best seasons in the mountain and help you get the vibe that you always wished for. So now that you've got an idea of all that delightful hiking time, so what's dragging you down? Just pack your bags, and enjoy travelling.
