Adventurers are always on the lookout for something new and different. Mostly when we head out to mountains or forests for a camp, we take an easy-to-set tent with us. But have you ever wondered what it’s like to sleep outside without any tent for comfort? Bivvying is what this is all about. Here the campers would be able to wake up and see how beautiful nature is! You would not be able to get this experience in the tent.
For people new to bivvying, here are some tips –
- Get bivvy and sleeping bags – Wherever you go for a hike, the weather can be unpredictable. It is important to get a good-quality bivvy bag that would allow you to stay safe in case it starts to rain. A sleeping bag is also important for a good night’s sleep.
- Check the weather conditions – As soon as you have selected a place to go bivvying, check the predicted weather. That would help you pack the necessary gears. Even bivvy lovers don’t like to get cold in the night.
- Warm sleeping mat – Another thing that you need to write in your checklist is a warm sleeping mat. This gear promises to give you a nice and warm place to sit and look at the sky. If you sit on the ground, chances are that you would be uncomfortable.
Select a Bivvy Spot –
A bivvy tip would not require a lot of planning. All you need is the right people, right gear, and the perfect spot! Here is how you select one –
- View matters – One of the most important parts of a bivvy trip is the view. This is because bivvy is all about exploring nature and sky. If you don’t get to bivvy in a place with a great view, what’s the use?
- Choose a flat spot – When you want to sit outside the tent, your best bet is a flat ground. This would stop your bivvy bag from sliding on the sleeping mat.
- Natural shelter – While looking for a spot, find the one with natural shelter. That would keep you safe from the wind. Places near trees, cave, dry stone walls, or hollow inside the ground are perfect.
Things to Consider
You are almost set. Now you have to consider some final things –
- Food and water – While hiking, these two things are essential. You cannot be dehydrated or hungry as any of these factors can slow you down. If you are weak, you would not be able to enjoy bivvying.
- Rain – Weather is an unpredictable player of nature. You might be sitting in a cool breeze but it can start pouring down, the next minute. Make sure that you bring along a rain cover and turn the boots upside down. That would help you stay dry and walk in dry clothes the next morning.
The main thing to remember is that you are going on a fun trip. Enjoy as much as you can and embrace these bivvying moments.
