If you are stuck in mundane city life, a camping trip provides a great way to break the monotony. While on a camping trip, you get the chance to unwind by engaging in fun and adventurous activities. The peace and calm provided by the greenery makes for a relaxing experience and lets you feel at one with nature.
Camping is quite a diverse activity as it involves various tasks. Each task can only be performed well if you plan properly before venturing out. If you are not prepared right then a camping trip can turn into a bitter excursion. There are certain mistakes which should be avoided in order to gain a rich experience from a camping trip.
1. Dependency on campfire for cooking
A campfire is synonymous with the leisurely social activities done on a camping trip. For most, a trip into the wild is incomplete without a campfire., but sometimes people take a bonfire for granted and depend on it for cooking their food. It may all be hunky dory when the weather is fine, but during rainy season, a campfire may not be all that easy to set up. It is always a good idea to pack a stove in your luggage, before heading out for a camping trip to avoid having to eat raw and cold food.
2. Not preparing for inclement weather
At home you are nestled under the protection of your dependable abode, with your trusty roof protecting you from the ever-changing weather. But when you are outside, the wrath of the weather gods may not be easy to handle. To protect yourself from the cold temperatures, rains and winds; you need to come armed with the right camping gear. Bring along moisture-wicking jackets accompanied by base layers to ward off the effects of cold weather, and keep a raincoat handy when you are heading out at a time when the rain is in the air. My personal favourite is a hooded and waterproof jacket, which is versatile attire for both cold and wet weather.
3. Packing the wrong stuff
Unlike a hotel or resort vacation where you have the access to basic amenities, a camping trip does not come with any facilities. Before going out for camping you need to make sure that you pack as many basic supplies as possible. Do not take along too many of your personal favourite items which have no use in camping. Packing judiciously is the key to a fun and rewarding experience.
4. Taking the wrong tent
Make sure that you take a waterproof tent with you on your camping trip. Also, consider the space requirements before making a choice. If you are a large group, divide it into different segments and bring along multiple tents to house everyone. Categorically dividing people on the basis of age groups and preferences is a great way to make sure that they have a great time with the right company.
5. Missing out on campsite reservation
Campsite reservation should not be ignored. It is quite disappointing to go camping and not find the right spot to camp. Always book in advance and go camping with a relaxed frame of mind.
6. All preparations and no enjoyment
Preparations should be taken seriously, but not so seriously that you miss out on the moments of fun. Pace yourself while setting up your camp, and enjoy the little moments. Engage in carefree chatter with your companions while performing tasks, and extract fun out of every moment you spend on your camping trip.
