The Paralympics opened last night and promises 10 days of more magical sporting events and fantastic athletes. After just a short break from watching the Olympics, millions of Brits will be looking forward to another sporting spectacular. But are you ready to sit down and watch all the events?

Guide to the perfect kit for the Paralympics

If you have a prized ticket for attending on of the Paralympics events, you will know that there are strict guidelines about what you can take into the Olympic stadium and other key Paralympic places. For security purposes, there will be airport-style searches and people are encouraged to make things easier and speedier for these checks.

You should take with you:

Day rucksack or bag: Make sure your day pack doesn’t have too many pockets because this could hold up the security process. Also, it is recommended that the bag is small and soft-sided – and that it fits under your seat. There will be no storage facilities available at the venues.

Waterproof jacket: It might rain. Given our summer so far there is a high chance that it will rain at some point during the Paralympics and so you will need a good quality waterproof jacket. We recommend that you also take waterproof trousers. No one will want to dampener their spirits by sitting watching the athletes feeling cold and wet.

Sun hat: Then again, the chances are that the sun will come out, too. A sun hat will keep the hot rays off your head.

Sunscreen: Add in sunscreen to prevent sunburn while you enjoy the Paralympics.

Water bottle:  You are allowed to take food into the various stadiums and sports centres, but it must fit into your bag. But you can’t take water in with you if it’s in a bottle that is bigger than 100ml. The advice is to take an empty water bottle and fill it up inside the venue.

Folding chair: If you have a ticket to a big event you will have a seat. But if you are planning to spend time in the Olympic Park watching other sports events such as cycling you might benefit from a folding chair for parking your bottom. You will need to carry this around with you, but it will likely be a huge bonus if the ground is wet or when you’re feeling a little walking/standing weary

Binoculars: The perfect addition to your bag for taking a close-up view of the sports and athletes.

Oooh, we're jealous! We hope you enjoy the Paralympics!
