With the summer season just a week or so away, you can already start feeling the warm weather. One sign that gives away the onset of the incoming summer are the trails. Trail runners, hikers, mountain bikers, etc. during this time of the year are all seen out in great numbers, getting their workouts done in the outdoors.

This is a very natural thing that happens every year. Gym clientele and memberships go down around the summer months, starting from June, as everyone starts taking their workouts outdoors. I am a personal trainer and hence, can tell you this for sure as I have had first-hand experience with such scenarios.

Working out on the Trail

Shifting your workout space from the indoors of your home or gym to the trials is understandable. Enjoying the sun and the beautiful trail while working out gives a different level of peace and satisfaction while working out. There is nothing better than working out in the sun and being surrounded by refreshing sceneries.

Moreover, working out outdoors gives you an excellent cardiovascular workout and helps strengthen your heart muscles. However, from a professional point of view, I would like to present a drawback- we have more than 600 other muscles in the body that needs to be tended to and simply doing some cardio workouts does not impact them much. There are specific exercises that make the other muscles work.

Strength training in the trails year-round has never-ending benefits, some of which are-

  • Improving bone density
  • Reducing joint pain
  • Reducing symptoms of numerous ailments
  • Getting a toned and athletic physique
  • Enhanced metabolic rates
  • Reaching a healthy state of mind
  • Boosting your confidence, etc.

I would also like to point out here that you can make use of working outdoors to put your other muscles to work as well. You can indulge yourself in a great resistance workout by putting only your body weight to use.

Remind yourself to add a few push-ups and crunches to your trial workout regime and most importantly, consult a doctor and get a health check-up done before you begin with any new exercise program. You surely don’t want any mishaps happening before you can even enjoy the summer season.
