The more you practice something, the more you will become better in that. It is that theory we have listened to and applied in our daily life since the beginning, however, it is not the case with workout. You might be thinking that what a little more exercise can do other than helping you to lose weight? The answer is – A lot of things. Just like any other thing that requires more practice or attention to attain perfection, adding more stress to workouts could be lethal. Sometimes when you do a little more in your workout sessions, it can lead to some grave health issues.
Overtraining is a condition where a person pushes himself to go an extra mile without giving his body a chance to recover from the stress the previous day. And this way of stressing the body too much can seriously affect your physical and psychological well-being. If you are unaware of what could overtraining perhaps do to your body, you can take the first step to look out for the most significant signs.
Here are the 8 most common symptoms that you should take care to determine whether you are overtraining yourself or not:
Excessive Fatigue
Fatigue can be one of the most common symptoms of overtraining. Though it is natural to feel tired or sluggish after an intense workout, you should notice when it becomes severe. You can experience fatigue if you are exerting yourself more than regular without giving yourself enough time to recover from post-workout stress.
Lack of Sleep
Overtraining results in secreting stress hormones more than regular, that can lead to disturbed sleep and in most of the cases leads to insomnia. If you are not getting enough sleep for days, this is the time when you should take a check on your workout sessions.
Low Immunity Levels
Exercise or workout is a way to keep you fit and healthy. When you are overtraining, the result you get is not so favourable. Overtraining or exerting your body to an intense level, it is likely to disturb the immunity levels. It happens due to excessive fatigue, disturbed sleep, and other health issues.
Sore Muscles
It is normal to feel acute pain for days when you first start exercising or going to the gym before returning to normal. But it gets rough when you continue to feel the pain even after weeks, and this is when you realize that you are overtraining.
Decreased Performance
Another common symptom of overtraining is decreasing performance. Where exercising tend to build your stamina and endurance levels, it starts to take a negative toll on your body because of overtraining. You may find yourself tired too soon due to less agility and flexibility, and it becomes harder to reach your actual fitness goal.
Joint Pain
Joint pains occur when you try to do everything by yourself. Improper exercising or lifting too much on the first day of the gym can lead to hurting joints. When you are first starting your training session or workout session, take an expert’s or trainer’s advice first, to do it right.
Weight Loss/Gain
Exercising too much or overtraining can lead to health problems. When you don’t give enough time to your body for recovering after the workout sessions, the stress level increases and hormonal imbalances tend to occur. All of these sudden changes in the body can lead to weight loss or weight gain.
Mental Stress
Psychological or mental peace is as crucial as physical health. Some unwanted effects associated with the mental health that could occur when you are overtraining are anger, depression, and loss of motivation, anxiety, and restless sleep.
So, if you are facing all these symptoms given above, it is likely because you are overtraining, and it is time to take a break to heal yourself completely. You can try medical sessions, home remedies, or simply a break to a favourite destination of yours to give yourself proper time for becoming physically and mentally fit.
