Exploring the woods is undoubtedly an exciting exercise to undertake. In order to prepare yourself for the challenges, you’d need to learn a few skills. Apart from these skill sets, you’d also need a set of specialised tools if you wish to survive in the wild.
Right from the basic necessities such as food and water to a set of survival tools, here are all the things that you would require.
Food and Water
There’s a possibility of surviving without food for a day or two, but it certainly is not possible for anybody to survive without water for too long. You’d be needing energy to walk through the woods. In case your supplies run out, try catching fish. Carrying a few snacks in the name of ‘emergency supplies’ can also help you fill your tummy in case your regular supplies get depleted. Some protein bars and pasta can also help you fill your tummy in case of an emergency.
As far as water is concerned, carry a considerable amount of water, but don’t overload your bag with water bottles. It is advisable to carry a water bottle with a filter in case you run out of potable water. This filter would help you get access to clean water in areas where you are not sure about the water quality.
A Portable Lighter
When you are roaming around in the wild, lighting a fire is the most basic technique of survival. Fire would keep the wild animals at bay. Also, the best part of knowing the art of lighting a fire is that you’d always be able to heat and roast your food. Not to forget, it’d also help you stay warm and cosy if the mercury drops. A Zippo lighter along with some cotton balls covered with wax is all you need for lighting a fire.
A Flashlight and a Whistle
A flashlight would act as an emergency signal and can be used if you find yourself in troubled waters. A flashlight would also come in handy at night. As far as the whistle is concerned, it’d also act as an emergency signal in case your flashlight runs out of battery.
A Pocket Knife
A knife can not only be used for creating a campfire, but can also help you while preparing food, shelter building, etc. Knives made of carbon fibre are both durable as well as lightweight. These knives are lightweight and can be carried with utmost ease.
A First Aid Kit
This is perhaps one of the most important things that would help you survive while you’re embarking on an adventure in this ‘wild-wild’ world. A good and experienced camper can never take a medical emergency for granted. Bring a few band-aids. Quick Clot band-aids can be used to stop profuse bleeding. Do not forget to bring cotton, scissors, and antiseptics. These would help you keep infections at bay.
It is Always Good to be Prepared
It is very important for an outdoor enthusiast to always be prepared for the worst.
