All the hiking lovers and general urban walkers want their walking boots to last forever. Once you get comfortable in your hiking boots, you don’t want to wear any other pair. Unfortunately, like everything else in the world, your walking boots can’t last forever. In this blog, I have tried to compile the hacks that will make your boots last long.
Follow these tips to understand the ways of keeping your boots fresh even in the testing conditions.
Keep Your Boots Away From Water
Water is dangerous for your hiking boots as constant moisture and wetness wear down your boots. Even when you have finished your hiking trip, do not forget to completely dry your boots. One sure way of doing this is to remove the insoles of your boots and hang them away for drying along with your boots. This will totally dry out your boots and make them free from any residual moisture content. Also, it will help the insoles in decompressing and drying after all the stress it has endured during your hike. Having high-quality insoles that are customised for a long hiking trip and can endure high moisture is also a great way of taking care of your boots.
Keep Your Boots Clean and Maintained
Keeping your boots clean and well maintained might sound cliché to some people, but if you want to keep your beloved boots working for a long time you have to take care of them. Clean your boots regularly and keep track of any small wear and tear in and around the body. Use leather moisturisers to keep your leather boots in a perfect condition. Use a waterproof membrane for your boots if you are planning to hike in a terrain where there is a possibility of boots getting soaked in water. Use good quality socks as they will keep your feet relaxed and also prevent the boots from bad odour. You should use odour-proof, antibacterial and breathable socks as they will keep your feet in a healthy condition and also prevent you from bacterial diseases.
Tie Your Boots According to Your Comfort
When going on a long hiking trip, lacing up your boots in an optimum way is a sure-shot way of having a comfortable trip. The way you walk should be the prime factor in deciding how you lace up your boots. Try keeping the grip comfortable and relaxed so that when you are walking there is no real stress on your feet or your boots. With a better fit and proper comfort, there will be less stress on the boots which will lead to lesser fatigue and hence, ensure the long life of boots.
Keep Rotating The Insoles
The insoles of your boots provide the necessary cushion to your feet and maintain comfort. They get compressed and tend to lose their shape if used over and over without changing. Try keeping a set of insoles customised to your boots and nature of the hike you are about to take. Rotating the customised insoles will help you have a comfortable trip along with putting lesser stress on the sole of the boot.
This has brought us to the end of this article and we have seen how easy it is to maintain your boots for a longer time without compromising on comfort. Hiking is an activity that requires high endurance material as you will be walking in tough terrains most of the time. A well-maintained set of walking boots will help you in many such expeditions.
